Linerless labels for your products

Updated: Jun 27, 2020

What is liner-less labels?

Liner-less labels are labels without adhesive backing or liner. You peel the label from the liner and stick it wherever you want and then toss the liner.

Liner-less labels adhere to themselves. The silicone-coated labels are, essentially, their own liners. A special manufacturing process coats the back of the label with an adhesive that is easily peeled off the surface of the label beneath it yet securely grips the surface. Notably place for use of liner-less labels: those are on your Starbucks cup with your name and drink you ordered on it.

Technology behind this: Microsphere adhesive technology

Microspheres are tiny spherical particles that get their shape during the polymerization process.

New Style: Liner-Less Labels

When a microsphere adhesive dries, it forms a discontinuous bonding film, where contact is limited to just the tops of those spheres. This means it can be peeled away and stuck back down multiple times, leaving no residue behind.

Old Style: Labels with adhesive backing

Non-microsphere adhesive technology, good old adhesive with liner on the back, has full contact with the substrate surface, with a continuous bonding film. This makes the substrate harder to remove, and doing so can damage the surface underneath.

Advantage of using liner-less or no-liners labels

  • Twice as many labels on a roll - there’s no liner to take up half the space.

  • No frequent changes of label rolls on your production or shipping line.

  • Half as much storage space for linerless labels.

  • Half as much shipping cost you pay for linerless labels.

  • Save money on waste disposal and janitorial costs - no liners to discard or gather up from your production area.

  • Safer for your workplace - removing the slippery silicone on peel-and-stick label liners from your manufacturing area reduces the risk of slip-and-fall accidents.

Costs effectiveness?

Even though, approximately 40% more labels per roll comparing to traditional labels, linerless labels cost as much, sometimes more. Also, you will need to purchase a special printer with a silicone roller which can print on liner-less labels.

However, saving time used for change overs, saving manufacturing cost, shipping cost, and production time. The release coating on linerless labels not only prevent the adhesive from sticking to the labels beneath it, it also serves as a protective coating for chemical, UV, and moisture resistance, which can greatly prolong the label’s shelf life.

Greener and safer.

Less waste produced from your facilities. Leftover liners can be a warehouse safety hazard.

By eliminating discarded label liners from the work environment, you are able to minimize, if not prevent, these potential work-related injuries. Microsphere technology makes liner-less labels use water-based adhesive solution.
